Some of you have been getting my email updates, so you are up to speed. For those that have not, here is a recap of my Dad's last few weeks:
A little over a month ago, he was diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer, thanks to a very detail-oriented nurse practitioner's observation during a routine checkup. A surgery to remove the thyroid was scheduled for Nov. 2, and further testing began to determine the degree at which the cancer had spread. All of the tests, including octreotide scans, pointed to the cancer being confined to the thyroid, which was encouraging.
Dad is now in recovery from the surgery, which lasted 9 hours! The thyroid was removed, along with several lymph nodes. His recovery is going very well. The surgery was 3 days ago, and he is up and moving around now. He should be able to go home today or tomorrow. They are waiting on his dosage to be determined for the medication that will replace the function of his thyroid (synthroid).
Mom is doing very well too! She has been a rock through this whole ordeal. Both she and Dad have kept a positive attitude from diagnosis to the surgery, and I am sure that will continue.
All of your prayers and support are greatly appreciated!
